Douglas Outdoor Media Goes Digital with Two Watchfire Digital Billboards in Pigeon Forge

Douglas Outdoor Media, of Knoxville, Tenn., had 36 vinyl and tri-vision billboards in East Tennessee, but wanted to offer its advertisers the flexibility they needed for a fast-paced, constantly changing environment in the tourism hotspot of Pigeon Forge.

“Digital billboards provide tremendous flexibility for advertisers who want to change display copy frequently,” said owner, Gary Douglas, who noted that in addition to restaurants, the billboards have been popular with other tourist venues in Pigeon Forge.

The answer? Douglas selected Watchfire Digital Outdoor to manufacture and install its first two digital billboards, both True-16mm and 10’x36’ in size, in Pigeon Forge. Douglas partnered with the owner of 19 restaurants in the Sevier County area to install the digital billboards.

Both billboards are located on U.S. Route 441, known as “The Parkway,” which extends through Pigeon Forge to Gatlinburg, Tn., and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The Parkway contains most of Pigeon Forge’s resort and tourist attractions, including Dollywood, numerous outlet malls, and music theaters.

Douglas selected Watchfire Digital Outdoor because the company came highly recommended by other billboard operators and because of board quality and customer service. “Watchfire boards appealed to me because they are a long-term investment. Watchfire’s product is better than competing products, and their service is persistent in solving any problems that come up.”
