Boot Country, Burlington, KY

Boot Country | Work Country is a family-owned retailer of western boots and apparel, and work boots, with four locations in southern Ohio and Kentucky. The retailer’s Burlington, KY store is situated just south of the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International airport on a busy road in horse country.

After the retailer’s flagship store in Sharonville, OH, installed an outdoor LED sign, co-founder Bill Van Fleet began considering one for the Burlington location as well. He originally installed a monochrome display at the Sharonville store at the suggestion of city officials who encouraged all businesses in the commercial district to get electronic signs.

“The Sharonville sign was really successful and was a good investment, so we felt that a digital sign at the Burlington store would deliver great visibility given its highway location,” said Rachel Van Fleet, executive vice president at Boot Country | Work Country.

The retailer worked with Klusty Sign Associates of Cincinnati to design and install a pole sign with a large, full-color digital display manufactured by Watchfire Signs. The double-sided display with the retailer’s signature red boot on top can’t be missed by motorists traveling in either direction.

The sign began making a difference immediately at the Burlington location, according to Van Fleet. “Despite the Burlington location opening in 1983, we have customers stop in the store after seeing the sign and say they never knew the store was there,” said Van Fleet. She estimates that sales are up about 40% at that location since the sign was installed.

Today, Boot Country | Work Country has Watchfire displays at every location. Klusty Sign Associates trains store managers on how to program the signs using Watchfire’s Ignite content management software. Managers are responsible for programming the signs at their location with a mix of messages, including product advertisements and information about sales, specials and holidays.

Vince Klusty, owner of Klusty Sign Associates, says he only specifies Watchfire digital signs. “We are big on quality and have never even entertained working with another digital signage manufacturer in 20 years,” said Klusty. “Watchfire manufactures signs that last and backs them up with great customer service.”

Boot Country | Work Country’s locations with monochrome signs plan to switch to full-color Watchfire displays to take advantage of the ability to showcase product photos and brand logos, and to give them greater flexibility in the content that can be shown on the message centers.
