Chas G. Burch Supply Co., Schenectady, NY

Chas G. Burch Supply Co. has been outfitting homes in the Schenectady area with kitchen, bath, and plumbing supplies for five generations. Steeped in tradition, current owner Charles Craft took over the business from his grandfather in 2018.

Under Craft’s leadership, the company outgrew its 2,000 sq. ft. building and showroom. He embarked on a new 4,200 sq. ft. expansion complete with a fully-operational kitchen that can be used for training, seminars, demonstrations, and other events.

Along with the new building, Chas G. Burch Supply also replaced its old pole sign with a new two-sided monument sign. To herald in a new era, the 133-year-old company wanted to include a modern LED display.

“We had worked with Chas G. Burch on signage for several years when Chas reached out to us to find out more about digital signs,” said Carly Clark, project manager for AJ Sign Company in Burnt Hills, NY. “Chas has friends in the area who own small businesses with digital signs, and he thought it would be a good addition to a new sign.”

After seeing a few different LED signs, the company selected a full-color 8mm LED display from Watchfire.

The new sign is an imposing 17’ high, double-face monument sign on a stone base featuring an internally lit logo cabinet atop an LED Watchfire display. The high-resolution LED sign delivers excellent visibility on busy State Street and allows the company to showcase pictures of recent kitchen and bath installations, as well as display messages about sales and featured products.

AJ Sign Company specified Watchfire for the project because the company manufactures high-quality, reliable products that produce vibrant and crisp images. “There’s a big difference in how Watchfire products look compared to others,” said Clark. “We feel comfortable recommending Watchfire because their displays not only look great, but they also come with terrific customer support. Watchfire is a reliable partner for both us and our customers.”

Chas G. Burch customers frequently mention how nice the sign looks, and town managers were excited that it appropriately freshens up an area that’s rich in history. “They hope this sets a precedent for other area businesses,” said Clark.
