Deiter Brothers, Bethlehem, PA

Deiter Brothers Heating Cooling Energy was started in 1929 by three Deiter brothers and serves the families and businesses throughout Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley and western New Jersey. Along with celebrating 90 years in business, the company has been voted the region’s #1 HVAC and energy company in independent consumer research surveys conducted by Who’s Who in Lehigh Valley Business for the 32nd year.

During their history, Deiter Brothers has dramatically grown their geographic reach and brand through acquisition and family-style service – the company’s founding hallmark. In the 1980’s, James G. Deiter became the third generation to grow the company through the expansion of product offerings, including propane. Recent years have seen the fourth generation of the Deiter family join the family business.

In the summer of 2018, the company added to their growing communication tools by purchasing a Watchfire Sign for their location in Bethlehem. “We strategize our branding efforts in a multi-platform marketing format,” said James G. Deiter, vice president and general manager. “The Watchfire sign is one more channel supporting the overall success of Deiter Bros.”

Prior to the digital display, Deiter Brothers had a roof sign with a Watchfire time and temperature unit, which lasted for over 20 years. The new sign was constructed and installed by Watchfire partner, Bartush Signs of Orwigsburg, Penn. “Jim and the Deiter family have been loyal and long-time customers of Bartush Signs,” said Jerry Freiwald, vice president of Bartush Signs. “When he contacted us about his interest in a digital sign, we were excited to assist with the project. The Watchfire display is the perfect complement to the new pylon sign.”

Being a very community-focused business, Deiter Bros. believes good will is good business. This new signage enables them to share the messaging needed to support worthy community causes. “We make this tool available to local non-profits to help publicize their special events and fund-raisers,” said Deiter.

The company reports a positive impact on the community. Customers and neighbors have mentioned that they like the dynamics of the changing messages. It keeps attention on the sign as they look for the newest messages, and time and temp updates.

The Ignite software has also been a hit with their marketing agency team. “It did not take long to get ramped up on the learning curve,” said Deiter. “Now it is pretty much turnkey.”
